Spark's Creation - August 2005 - What Are You Doing?

Let's get real-- what does all this consciousness expansion and deliberate creating stuff have to do with practical matters?

Well, what are you doing?

This morning a hawk flew over the house and proceeded to soar, I appreciated that very much and he was soon joined by one and then several more. "That was fast!" I thought to myself, and quickly pictured a beautiful hundred dollar bill and appreciated it!! :D

Ah but that wasn't really part of the story... Soaring-- no work, no wing flapping-- bunches of them-- sometimes going in broad circles and sometimes looking as if they were absolutely still in the sky.

I wondered if they were eyeing something over to the south because there were a lot of them over there sort of in a grouping, but none of them swooped. One came closer to me again and I wondered how they see so clearly to hunt when they go so high. ...work-directed thoughts, mind you-- I was having one of those mornings. :)

It became obvious to me that these guys weren't hunting; they weren't working. They were soaring-- and imagine the deliciousness of soaring in the air just because you can. I was swept away just on the idea of it. They do it because that's what they are, that's who they are, that's what they do.

So many of us have been trained that we have to be more, do more, be better, that we have our schedules so full we barely have time to think, much less soar.

We go through mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights, doing what we do. Explore this with me, if you feel like it: Do you do what you do because you're supposed to, because somebody said so, for one reason or another? Or do you do what you do because it's what you are, it's who you are, it's what you do?

If the latter, do you realize that's enough? That that is good enough? That simply being in that space of expression Is everything? ..Or do you discount it, spend time and energy thinking of other things you could or should be doing, judge it as less-than and block the flow of numberless wonderful things in your experience because of old training?

I had been entertaining the idea of taking on yet another volunteer position, "yes"ing and "no"ing it to death in my head.... I decided no, because with a new art business and a family and a "hobby" that keeps me extremely busy, I didn't really need another distraction to pull me away. Other people with less to do could fill the position. Then I decided yes, because it ought to be simple work, I'm definitely capable, and it could be fun, and possibly lead to a paid position there or somewhere else... heavy on my mind again had been the idea of "source of income."

Then I had my consultation with the hawks. :)

They do what they do because that's what they are. That's who they are. That's what they do. They soar. And I remembered. That's why I do my art. That's why I do my consciousness explorations and Reality Tweakers. Anytime I link dollars to my art it kills it for me-- still working on that one-- but in that "soaring space" this morning I quickly realized that I had squashed my passion, and remembered the simplicity of expression. I don't do it for money, I do it because it's who I am. What a relief not to think about all the STUFF that goes along with selling the art-- prices and shows and blah blah blah.

If it came down to it, I'd rather be an artist in a shack than a Corporate Whatever in a condo-- any day, any day, every day. :) Of course it would help if the shack had electricity and an internet connection. :D
